Year 8 and 9 French trip report

Year 8 and 9 French trip report The Year 8 and 9 trip to France began with a very early start, but once we had recovered from how early it really was, we were all extremely excited and happy to be on our way. Luckily our ferry journey was smooth and calm.

When we arrived at the Chateau we split into our dormitory groups and headed off to unpack and settle in. It was definitely a shock to the system to be surrounded by
people who only spoke to us in French, but we soon adjusted. Before dinner, we were given a presentation by the Instructors who gave us the names of the cutlery and food in front of us, and told us how to ask for refills of drinks and food. I think we’ll all remember that phrase for a long time!

Every day was packed with fun activities including team-building, fencing, aero-ball, climbing, bread-making and the assault course (I think it’s fair to say that Paige N left her mark on that one!). We all had great fun in our groups whilst pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and learning lots of French.

Throughout the trip we completed an activity log which helped set in stone the French we learnt and also gave us something to take home and show our parents.

On Tuesday we visited a local market, and then carried on to the beautiful Mont St. Michael. We had such an amazing time being shown around by our fantastic French guide - it came as quite a shock to many of us that we could understand nearly all that was being said. It really was beautiful and for me it was the highlight of our trip.

The group grew a lot closer over the week and it was nice to spend time with people you wouldn’t normally talk to very much at school.

Another highlight of the trip was our great participation in the talent show. Anna H and Georgia B’s routine to `Closer` was definitely to be remembered, whilst Chloe E and Annie C’s singing and piano duet to `Someone Like You` was so beautiful it gave everyone in the room goose bumps! Another amazing performance was given by Ella T, Holly B, Anna H and Ruby H who sang `The Cup Song`.

On the same comedy level as Anna and Georgia’s dance routine was the version of `Apple Pen` by Tom, Aarav, Cameron and Sam, which certainly got the crowd going.
On the penultimate day of our stay we had a French-themed evening, where we all dressed up in fancy dress and had a French meal - including snails. Anna H beat the existing record of 13 by managing to eat 15! After the snails, we had a lovely surprise - chocolate tarts.

The Year 8 girls certainly put on a good show in the fancy dress. Isobel B’s French Artist’s costume was amazing, Georgia B dressed up as a Mime Artist and Paloma H and Isobel R were classic French in their striped tops and berets.

Overall, we had an amazing trip, and learnt far more about France and French culture that we could ever have done in a classroom. Finally, we must say a massive “Thank you” to the incredible teachers who allowed us to have such a fantastic time. Report by Georgia R and Paloma H.
