Duke of Edinburgh qualifying weekend

24/09/2016
Duke of Edinburgh qualifying weekend On Saturday 24th of September we arrived at school at 7:45am to set off for our DofE Bronze Award expedition. We started at Broomy Walk car park where we met our
Assessor, Nigel. We left the car park at 9:30am and began our walk. About 2km into our walk the path we were supposed to take had been turned into a deer sanctuary, so we had to find a new route which added some extra distance to our route. At Picket Post we ran into Team Echo, and from there we walked with them up to the A35 where Alpha had a rest and Echo carried on walking.

We stopped for lunch at Denny Cottage before walking on to Holmsley Campsite. Reaching the campsite, we erected our Vango Beta 350XL tent, which only took Rob, Alasdair and Will five minutes. In the evening we cooked our meals of super noodles and sausages, pasta, pesto and red sauce. During the evening we socialised with other groups until we went to sleep.

It rained very heavily overnight and was still raining as we cooked breakfast in the morning. On the second day we took a lot more photos because we had a shorter route to walk. We ate our lunch at a footbridge just outside Ferny Knap enclosure. Our final leg of the journey was to a car park at the end of the ornamental drive, where we met up with Nigel for our debrief, and were very pleased to learn that we had passed the expedition.
