African Music Workshops take some beating

African Music Workshops take some beating Following a successful Chinese New Year workshop in January, Storme and Angela from Earthsong returned to provide our very first African Music Workshop. Students from Years 7, 9 and GCSE were excited to learn about and play a variety of weird and wonderful percussion instruments including rattles made from giant beans and chrysalises from the Giant African Moth.

Students enjoyed playing melodies on traditional African instruments including the Kora, Balaphone and Mbira and participated in some tribal dancing. The Workshop culminated in the students creating a drum circle performance using Djembe drums which tested their
concentration and co-ordination. The Workshop brought our African Music topic to life and has inspired students to use traditional instruments and rhythms in their
compositions and performances in class.
