Year 7

During year 7 students are encouraged to learn and reinforce basic presentation and construction techniques whilst being introduced to vital workshop safety requirements and the necessary strategies involved within the Design Process.

The notepad project examines the design requirements necessary to make this a functional object; the properties of wood & wood types; simple jointing, wood finishes; the introduction of workshop safety and the function & use of basic hand tools.

photo of a pop up cardThe moisture tester tests soil for moisture content and indicates if there is enough to allow plants to grow. The circuit, components & PCB are provided, but accurate assembly and soldering are required. Computer graphics are used to produce a high quality of finish for the protective surrounding cover.

Pop-up card. This project uses simple mechanisms made from card to produce 3D movement to enhance the visual impact of the greetings card. Computer aided graphics is also used to improve the production quality of the card. The occasion and design are, within reason, left to the designer!
