Year 10 Resistant Materials

In line with the School's Independent Learning Policy, Year 10 students are encouraged to work on their own with as little guidance as possible from the teaching staff in order to develop the necessary skills for a successful GCSE project.   This is particularly so for the project folder which, up until this time, has been guided by the use of project booklets.   Students have two terms only in which to achieve this.   The summer term is used in preparation for starting the GCSE project.

Jointed initials:  This project introduces the student to the production of a project folder entirely from scratch without the aid of a booklet with which to guide their ideas, thoughts and presentation.   A variety of jointing techniques must be used in the making of this project.

The skateboard deck investigates the process of laminating for producing a complex shape.    It introduces jigs & formers, project costing and planning.   The most important aim of this project is the introduction of the formal project folder. This is prepared without booklet aid, using the format, layout, contents and presentation skills required for a successful GCSE entry.
